ALP's Immigrant Rights Working Group is inviting everyone to take an afternoon in Pride month to celebrate New York's LGBTSTGNC immigrant experiences through two films:

VIA NEW YORK Drawing from memory and narrative, Via New York explores the politicization of African students in New York and the participation of South African lesbians and gays in the anti-apartheid struggle. Via New York is a snapshot of African lesbian and gay lives through the lens of migration and the pursuit of formal education. The film illustrates how both can function as catalysts for self-transformation and social change. Filmaker: Kagendo Murungi

MAGNETIC ATTRACTION is a work in process which the director markets as possibly the first feature cinéma vérité to chronicle both a relationship between lesbians of color and lesbians in a sero-discordant (HIV +/-) partnership. Michelle Lopez, a Venezuelan Trinidadian femme lesbian and „Kitty‰ Boyd, her African American butch partner, test the physics of love and the chemistry of personalities as they reconfigure their relationship during a time of transition. Filmaker: Hima B.
